Doreen Lambert Catering is a family-run business and was set up by Doreen herself in 1981.
Like most businesses, it began small – although the first event was for nearly 200 people – but the hobby soon took over Doreen’s life and her two daughters, Linda and Vanessa joined her in the company.
Doreen has worked in catering all her life. She began at a very young age in a local tea-room and her vivacious and kindly spirit and strong work ethic made her a natural this type of work. As a young woman, she continued her career at hotels in Hungerford and Woolacombe. Later becoming manageress at Forte’s restaurants in London before moving to Bedford. Here she worked in the popular Kings Arms and the Bromham Swan restaurants.
Doreen is still very much the mainstay and the character of the business, working six, sometimes seven days a week, in the kitchen and the office. You will usually find her in the kitchen at events – plating meals, washing up and making sure that everything runs smoothly and to her high standard of service.
We are very much a family business.
The staff at Doreen Lambert Catering is lovely. We’ve known most of the waiting and kitchen staff for a very long time – some of them since the very start of the business! Others worked for us as teenagers and now their own sons and daughters have begun working here too.
